Handy tips for Newborn Photography

Safety comprises of comfort and well-being of the newborn during photography session . Here are few ways to ensure safety while doing a newborn session . All it takes is a bit of mindfulness ,here we go -:
  • Posing - While trying a pose with the baby , if the baby isn’t taking a pose easily I will suggest to change the pose instead of trying to force. Newborn session are always baby-led and the comfort of the baby is top most priority .
  • Supervise- Never leave the baby unattended in the studio or in a prop. In case you are alone take help of parents to be around the baby , also never leave the baby for long in the prop, like basket , bed etc. if you got the shot or if the baby is getting cranky , in such a case it will be wise to take the baby away for a while and re-try again later
  • Cleanliness-Maintaining general hygiene is very important. This includes cleaning/Sanitising hard surface props like bucket , bed , basket etc and washing soft props (wraps , clothes etc)
  • Don’t say Yes if you want to say NO- clients will like many poses on the internet but if you feel that it is unsafe to work it out with a newborn ,please be assertive and share the same with the parents . Understand that good photos are important but nothing is more important that baby’s safety
  • Warmth - Maintaining warm temperature will make the baby comfortable. The reason why babies love swaddle is that it makes keeps them warm. (Could it also be that this gives them the feeling of being inside the womb?)
  • Camera Gear- Camera strap is recommended
Have a wonderful time clicking ! oh yes the most important thing (not related to safety tho but will certainly will be handy ) is PATIENCE

One thing I do in my setups

Besides photographing babies , i also enjoy making props for my setups.  One of my most favorite being Paper flowers . I love to use them in the background . with interesting tones and colours ,they give a very unique touch to my pictures.  When i started doing baby photography , i wanted to do something that can add beauty to my images at the same time is not to heavy on my pocket , so i decided to get into some DIY prop making. I agree it takes time to make these but i also agree that it adds uniqueness to your work.  There is inspiration everywhere in todays web age ..all you have to do is be willing to go search for it.my favorite place is Pinterest . I pick an idea and then make it work in my own way .  what is your favorite DIY... inspire me a bit here ... :) these are my social appearances-  instagram kidoclickophotography facebook kidoclickophotography
